Amelie the mouse

Amelie was found late one July afternoon, lying motionless in the shade of a great oak tree. Ottoline carefully gathered up her tiny white body and carried her home. As the night turned into dawn and Ottoline had finished her stitching, sewing and stuffing, Amelie was a sight to behold. A beautiful ballerina mouse, complete with silk bodice and delicate tulle tutu.

A macabre ballet

Two mice and three young crows were today's foundlings....Ottoline spent the hours that followed stitching together her sad little ensemble of tiny ballerinas and feathery dancers, only arising from her work table to turn on her gas lamp as the sun dipped below the black woods of the Perigord Noir.
Finally her cast was complete and she sat back on her stool to watch the wondrous display of twirling tulle and swooshing satin and silk, all performed to a sombre yet capriccio tune in her head....

Deep in the Perigord Noir...

...lies Manoir De Triste, its ancient honey coloured turrets crumbling after seven hundred and forty nine harsh winters and seven hundred and fifty scorching summers. And within the thick, stone walls lives a girl, and her name is Ottoline.
Ottoline lives a secluded and solitary life, her only company are the scampering animals in the dense forest that surrounds the manoir and of course the animals that she brings back to her dark abode....
You see, Ottoline can't bear to say goodbye to her forest friends, so every morning she ventures out into the black woods and mournfully collects her little friends who didn't survive the dark night. On her return to the cool, ivy clad walls of her home, she stitches, and she sews, she snips and she stuffs until all her stiff little friends are with her once more....for eternity.
